The Finest Dartmoor Sheep Milk

Pure, Unpasteurised, and Rooted in the Moor

We are thrilled to announce that our order books are now officially open to dairies and artisan producers. Our journey has led us back to the heart of Dartmoor’s traditional heritage, shifting our focus to the production of premium, unpasteurised sheep’s milk. For makers seeking to produce world-class cheeses, thick yoghurts, or innovative dairy products, our milk offers a “taste of Devon” in every litre.

Why Our Milk is Different

The secret to an exceptional dairy starts with the landscape. Our flocks graze on the rugged, herb-rich pastures of the high moors, breathing fresh Atlantic air and living a calm, leisurely life. We believe that happy animals produce superior milk, which is why we’ve invested in a state-of-the-art milking parlour designed for the comfort of our sheep and the absolute purity of the collection process.

The result is a milk that is naturally rich, remarkably sweet, and structurally superior for cheesemaking. While cow’s milk is the standard, sheep’s milk offers a higher solids content, meaning better yields for makers and a creamier, more luxurious mouthfeel for the end consumer.

A Nutritional Powerhouse

Sheep’s milk isn’t just about flavour; it is a nutritional “super-dairy.” It contains significantly higher levels of vitamins A, B, and E, as well as more calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium than traditional cow or goat milk.

  • Easier Digestion: With a different protein structure and lower lactose levels, many find sheep’s milk much gentler on the digestive system.

  • Immune Support: It is naturally rich in iodine and Vitamin D—essential for maintaining health in our northern climate.

  • The Herd Cycle: Our cows still play their part! Their home-produced organic matter fertilises our fields, ensuring the soil remains vibrant and the grazing pastures stay nutrient-dense for our milking flocks.

Partnering With Dartmoor Sheep Dairy

Whether you are an established dairy looking to diversify your range with a Roquefort-style blue, a firm Manchego, or a silky Halloumi, or a boutique maker experimenting with small-batch yoghurts, we invite you to join our journey.

We currently supply local Westcountry cheesemakers with raw, unpasteurised milk, but we have ambitious plans to open our own on-site dairy in the future. By sourcing from us now, you are becoming part of a sustainable, circular farming story that puts the land and the animal first.

Our milk is available in seasonal batches. To discuss volumes, seasonal availability, or to visit the parlour, please get in touch to join our producers’ network.

OUR FARM

Our farm is Red Tractor Quality Assured which means that our animal husbandry is of the highest standard. In addition to our milk sheep we keep a herd of pedigree Devon Red Ruby Cattle and a small flock of Whiteface Dartmoor sheep whose meat is also available to buy.

We do not have to use antibiotics because our animals are all as fit as a whole band of fiddles! We don’t use any kind of growth hormone, just grass pure and simple.

We run a ‘Calm Farm’ – our philosophy is that it is our duty to treat our animals well and most importantly – with respect. We do not raise our voices to our animals, become frustrated with them when they are a bit stubborn or use force, which sometimes means moving the sheep & cows can be very leisurely! They are not to be rushed!

Our relaxed and stress-free approach has helped our milk sheep settle in very happily to their new milking parlour. This successful addition to the farm is in anticipation of our very own Dartmoor Sheep Cheese Dairy. Watch this space! The dairy will be built soon, and we’re already supplying our sheep milk to local cheese makers.
